The Department of Health and Social Care has announced a collaboration between governments and life science industry leaders in order to develop coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnostics, vaccines and treatments, as well as to protect against future pandemic threats. This is part of the 100 Days Mission, the goal to compress the development of a vaccine for future viruses down from the 326 days it took to develop the first coronavirus vaccine down to 100 days. The so-called ‘pandemic preparedness partnership’ is to comprise ‘sustained innovation and collaboration between large and small companies, academic and medical researchers, regulators and global health bodies’.
