The Food Standards Agency (FSA) board has committed to building on insight developed from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ‘to anticipate future challenges in the food system’. In its recent meeting, the FSA Board was informed of how the FSA has used horizon scanning to provide an insight into the pandemic and questioned how this approach can be used in the future. Chief executive of the FSA, Emily Miles, explained the aim of the FSA to transition from reacting to issues, to ‘anticipating changes that will impact on the food industry,’ which would permit the FSA to be better placed, making it easier for businesses to ensure adequate food safety and standards.
