The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has published a speech given by the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency (EA), Sir James Bevan, in which he provides advice on how to manage incidents ‘before they become crises’. In order to manage an incident, it is advised that, among other things, the organisation’s leader step up and lead, the organisation as a whole be present on the ground and have a strategy, and the organisation learn from the incident in order to better prepare for the next. Additionally, Sir Bevan also covered the EA’s role in incidents, and how it is managing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
