The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has announced that the government has set out new measures in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill to put local communities ‘at the heart of the planning system’, delivering on a number of commitments made this summer by the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. This includes strengthening the commitment to building enough ‘right homes in the right places with the right infrastructure’, also ensuring the environment is protected and giving local people more say on the placement of new developments. The Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, has also requested that the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) consider doing a market study on housebuilding.
