Article summary

The Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a new study into the options for providing HS2 train services to Leeds. This study forms part of the Integrated Rail Plan (IRP), which set out a £96bn investment to benefit rail connectivity in the Midlands and the North back in November 2021. The study will consider the practicalities of running trains into Leeds city centre, taking into account money, affordability, deliverability and timescales, economic development, disruption to passengers and local views and evidence and is expected to take two years to complete. The DfT has also announced that it will be reassessing evidence to improve connectivity in Bradford, including the construction of a new station, as part of the HS2 to Leeds Study and Northern Powerhouse Rail development programme.
