The Department for Education (DfE) is introducing a new set of 'consistent' standards for international teachers wanting to teach in English schools, alongside providing support with integrating into teaching from 2023. These new set of consistent standards that international teachers must meet will replace their eligibility being determined by the country they qualified in. According to the DfE, this will ‘open up’ opportunities to international teachers and make it ‘fairer’ and ‘easier’ to work in England as a teacher. The new standards will include the need to have completed teacher training of at least the same academic standard as that in England and a requirement to show a proficient level of English. In terms of the support that it set to be provided, teachers from abroad who are early into their career will receive the same induction period as teachers in England.
