The Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, has launched an independent review of children’s social care which looks at the experiences, needs and outcomes of children supported by social care, including improvements needed to make a difference. Williamson says the review will deliver on a 2019 manifesto commitment that pledged to review the care system in order to ensure children and young adults receive the support needed. Announcing the review, Williamson said: ‘We have known for some time that despite the best efforts of hardworking and dedicated social workers, the children’s social care system is not delivering a better quality of life and improved outcomes for those it is designed to help.’
