The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report on 01 July 2021 reviewing the infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in place at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The report details the unannounced inspection on 29 April 2021 that was triggered by data showing an increase in hospital acquired infections. The CQC submitted an overall good rating and concluded the existing systems and practices had enough oversight to adapt to future challenges and manage the risk. The publication commended the multi-disciplinary approach and contributions of the staff, leaders and executive team. The CQC highlighted issues with the accident and emergency department not feeling supported by the IPC team; discrepancies with using personal protective equipment (PPE); and making hand gels more available for visitors.
