The European Commission has adopted new rules to protect citizens against four chemicals that can have negative consequences on the immune system, the development of foetuses and babies, or cholesterol by limiting the levels of perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) in food. The four chemicals, also known as 'forever chemicals', include perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, perfluorooctanoic acid, perfluorononanoic acid, and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid.
