The UK government has issued a joint statement with the European Commission following the fifth meeting of the Specialised Committee on Citizens’ Rights on 23 February 2021. During the meeting, which was the first following the end of the transition period, the UK and EU ‘exchanged updates on matters associated with the implementation and application now that the rights under the Withdrawal Agreement are being fully relied upon’. Moreover, plans for the monitoring and handling of complaints for EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU were presented by the Independent Monitoring Authority and the European Commission. The parties agreed to meet at least every three months throughout 2021 and produce a Joint Report on Residence in April 2021.
