The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Immigration Detention (APPG) has published the full report of its inquiry into the UK’s use of large-scale institutional sites to house destitute people seeking asylum. The report indicates that the sites have prison-like conditions which can cause those living there to relive past abuses and can be highly traumatising. Operational failings were also reported in the inquiry, including ‘appalling treatment conditions’, dehumanisation, exhaustion, mental health deterioration and in some cases, attempted suicide.
