114 Quantity surveyor

An architect or other contract administrator may employ a quantity surveyor1 to assist him in performing his duties under the contract. More commonly, the quantity surveyor is appointed by the employer, either directly or through the agency of the architect2. Where the construction contract provides for the appointment of a quantity surveyor, the scope of his authority vis-à-vis the contractor is determined by the contract.
