115 Supervisor or clerk of works

Where it is not envisaged that the person named as contract administrator will personally monitor every aspect of the contract works1, provision may be made for the appointment of one or more persons to carry out detailed inspection. In building contracts such a person is commonly called a ‘clerk of works’; in civil engineering contracts the equivalent terms are ‘resident engineer’ or ‘engineer’s representative’2. The person concerned may be appointed by and responsible to the contract administrator, who will in turn be responsible for his actions to the employer3
