The European Commission has initiated a public feedback period on the uniform format for Member States' national restoration plans under Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 (Nature Restoration Regulation). The Commission has designed this format to ensure legal compliance, reduce administrative burden, and facilitate data reuse across policies. The feedback period aims to gather input on this digital planning tool, which will standardise the presentation of planned restoration measures, implementation timelines, and associated financial resources. This initiative follows the Nature Restoration Regulation's entry into force in August 2024, marking a significant step towards restoring Europe's ecosystems. The feedback period is open until 7 February 2025.

The European Commission launched its 'Virtual Worlds Toolbox' on 31 March 2025, providing guidance on navigating virtual environments and outlining EU citizens' rights in digital spaces. The toolbox, part of the 2023 EU Strategy on Web 4.0 and Virtual Worlds, implements 23 recommendations from the European Citizens' Panel structured around eight principles including freedom of choice, safety, and transparency. The resource covers working, learning, and gaming in virtual spaces, with specific focus on cybersecurity and protection against disinformation. Its launch coincides with the Global Multistakeholder High-Level Conference on Web 4.0 Governance, co-organised with the Polish Presidency.

The European Commission has launched three market investigations under the Digital Markets Act (EU DMA) to examine competitiveness and fairness in the cloud computing sector. Two investigations focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, assessing whether they should be designated as gatekeepers, important gateways between businesses and consumers, despite not meeting the EU DMA’s quantitative thresholds for size, user numbers, or market position. The inquiries will determine whether structural features of the sector, such as interoperability limitations and data access restrictions, reinforce their market dominance. Should the Commission conclude that AWS and Azure qualify as important gateways, these services would be added to the list of core platform services already subject to DMA obligations.

On 30 January 2025, the European Commission launched a new Biotech and Biomanufacturing Hub to foster innovation and support the European biotech sector. This new initiative aims to assist companies, especially start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in bringing innovative products to the EU market and enhancing their competitiveness. The newly established Hub, hosted on the Commission’s Your Europe portal, will act as a centralised operational tool, providing easy and accessible information on EU legislation, financing opportunities, and business support networks. Key among these networks are the Enterprise Europe Network and the European Cluster Collaboration Platform, which will play pivotal roles in supporting the continuous development of the Hub.

The European Commission has initiated procedures to adopt new adequacy decisions for EU-UK personal data transfers, following its assessment of the UK Data Use and Access Act which received Royal Assent on 19 June 2025. The Commission's initial evaluation found the UK's legal framework continues to provide data protection safeguards 'essentially equivalent' to EU standards. The draft decisions will require European Data Protection Board opinion, EU Member States committee approval and European Parliament scrutiny before adoption. This follows the Commission's June 2025 six-month technical extension of existing 2021 adequacy decisions to allow assessment of the new UK legislation.

The European Commission has launched a pilot programme for the coordinated assessment of clinical investigations and performance studies under the Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/745 and the In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/746. This initiative allows sponsors to submit a single application for studies conducted across multiple Member States, aiming to streamline regulatory processes, enhance transparency, and reduce administrative burdens. Eligible sponsors must be conducting multinational studies involving at least two participating countries and using specified categories of investigational devices. Applications must be submitted by 30 April 2026.

The European Commission has launched the Forced Labour Single Portal to help businesses, Member States and other stakeholders prepare for the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/3015 (the Forced Labour Regulation). The portal provides guidance on applying the Regulation, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, resources to help identify and address supply chain risks, and a provisional list of national enforcement authorities. The Regulation will apply from 14 December 2027 and will prohibit products made with forced labour from being placed on the EU market or exported from the EU. The Commission says it will continue to expand the portal and work with Member States, businesses and civil society organisations during the 18-month preparation period to support consistent implementation across the EU.

The European Commission has launched the Roadmap towards Nature Credits to mobilise private investment in certified nature-positive actions across the EU. The initiative aims to restore biodiversity, complement public funding and address the €65bn annual biodiversity investment gap. Credits will reward landowners and investors, and stakeholder feedback is invited until 30 September 2025.

The European Commission has initiated a safeguard investigation into alloys imports to the EU. The probe aims to determine whether protective measures are necessary to support the EU alloys industry, which is facing challenges due to increased imports and global overcapacity. The investigation will conclude within nine months, with the possibility of provisional measures being imposed within 200 days if clear evidence of injury is found. The Commission cites the alloys sector as critical for the EU's strategic autonomy and economic security.

The European Commission has launched the second-phase consultation on the proposed Quality Jobs Act, inviting views on measures to improve working conditions, health and safety and workers’ rights across the EU. The Commission seeks views on five priority areas: (1) algorithmic management and artificial intelligence at work; (2) workplace safety and health; (3) workers’ rights in subcontracting chains; (4) fair digital and green transitions and (5) enforcement and the role of social partners. The consultation closes on 28 September 2026.

The European Commission has initiated the second stage of social partner consultations on proposed EU-level regulation of telework rights and the right to disconnect. The consultation, running until 6 October 2025, seeks input on workers' right to disconnect, fair telework provisions and occupational safety measures. This follows first-stage consultations conducted from April to June 2024. The Commission reports that 20.3% of Europeans worked remotely at least part-time in 2024, double the 2019 level. Following the consultation, social partners may begin negotiations, or the Commission will consider EU-level action while respecting national competencies.

The European Commission has launched a stakeholder survey on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. The survey follows the publication of the Apply AI Strategy in October 2025. It seeks feedback on sector-specific actions, as well as the real-world impact and scalability of solutions ready for broader implementation. The findings will inform future policy actions aimed at accelerating AI adoption across both sectors. Responses must be submitted by 26 June 2026.
