A Norwich Pharmacal order (NPO) is an order for the disclosure of documents or information by the respondent to the applicant. As an equitable remedy, any NPO is discretionary and its terms will be adapted to fit the nature of the claim.

NPOs are typically sought to obtain information about the identity of persons to whom a victim can look for the redress of a wrong. An application is against the respondent, whose identity is known to the applicant and who (usually innocently but it may be otherwise) has been caught up in wrongdoing orchestrated

LSB approves CILEx Regulation application for stand-alone litigation rights

The Legal Services Board (LSB) has approved an application from CILEx Regulation Limited (CRL) to amend its regulatory framework to allow Chartered Legal Executives (CLEs) to obtain stand-alone authorisation for litigation rights without the need to seek rights of audience concurrently. Acting under delegated authority, Interim Chief Executive, Richard Orpin, granted the application in full on 31 October 2025.

MoJ launches call for evidence on whiplash reform programme

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a for evidence to support its post-implementation review of the whiplash reform programme. This call seeks feedback on the programme’s impact and effectiveness, including its influence on claimant choice, the fairness of compensation for whiplash injuries, and trends in the number and cost of such claims. The review will examine measures introduced under Part 1 of the Civil Liability Act 2018—including the statutory definition of a whiplash injury, the fixed tariff of damages for injuries lasting up to two years and the ban on seeking or offering to settle claims without medical evidence. The call for evidence closes on 22 December 2025.
