The Welsh Government has pledged its support to children and young people mental health services by making an extra £9.4m investment available. The additional funding has been announced at the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week, which recognises ‘the effects being away from school and regular support networks has had on young people during the pandemic.’ Research has shown that mental health issues predominantly begin when people are children or young people, thus, an additional £4m will be provided to ‘improve access to emotional and mental health well-being support in schools as part of the Whole Systems Approach.’ The Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) will receive an additional £5.4m in funding to support those who require intensive support in the community as well as in specialist mental health in-patient services.
