The Welsh Government and the Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan, have announced the implementation of the Real Living Wage for registered workers in care homes and domiciliary care, and is in recognition of the extraordinary contribution of social care staff during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Welsh Government has provided that it is providing £43m to Welsh local authorities and health boards to implement the Real Living Wage from April 2022. According to the Welsh Government, the Real Living Wage is independently calculated by the Resolution Foundation and overseen by the Living Wage Commission and currently set at £9.90 per hour.
