The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has announced that UK national, Nathan Wyatt, has been sentenced to five years in a federal prison and ordered to pay $1,467,048 in restitution for his role in ‘The Dark Overlord’ Hacking Group. According to the US DoJ, the defendant, who pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit aggravated identity theft and computer fraud, conspired to steal sensitive personally identifying information from victim companies and release those records on criminal marketplaces unless victims paid bitcoin ransoms. The Dark Overlord is a computer hacking collective which targeted victims based in the St Louis area starting in 2016. The defendant was extradited from the UK to Missouri in December 2019.
