The Scottish Economy and Fair Work Committee has expressed concerns that the proposed mental health moratorium which is to be contained in the Bankruptcy and Diligence (Scotland) Bill is too narrow in scope. The current provision, which protects those suffering from poor mental health from some debt recovery action pending their recovery, only covers those subject to compulsory mental health treatment. Committee Convener Claire Baker has called on the Scottish government to extend the provision ‘to allow more people experiencing a mental health crisis to lean on this support’.
