Article summary

Ofcom has launched a campaign in partnership with social media influencer, Lewis Leigh, and behavioural psychologist, Jo Hemmings, to address the lack of reporting, among younger online users, of harmful content. The launch of the campaign follows Ofcom’s research findings, which revealed that 67% of the participants had encountered potentially harmful content, though about 17% of young people reported or flagged the harmful content they came across. The campaign aims to educate young people on the importance of reporting and flagging harmful content online. Ofcom has committed to work with companies to help them understand their new obligations and measured needed to protect their users from harm and will publish their first annual report this autumn, on how effectively video-sharing platforms are tackling harm on their services.
