Article summary

Ofcom has launched a consultation on parts of the framework under the Online Safety Act 2023 (OSA 2023) which underpin its Online Safety Technology Notice powers to tackle terrorism and child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) content. Under OSA 2023, s 121, Ofcom is able to require a provider within the scope of the OSA 2023 to use a specific technology to tackle terrorism and/or CSEA content or develop such technology. Any such technology will need to be accredited against minimum standards of accuracy set by the government upon advice from Ofcom. In this consultation, Ofcom seeks views on its proposals on the minimum standard of accuracy for accredited technologies and its draft guidance on how to exercise the Technology Notice power. Responses can be submitted until 5pm on 10 March 2025.
