The British Science Week 2020 has started with a joint announcement from the Business Secretary, Alok Sharma, and the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, to reveal a multi-million government investment to support the next generation of scientists. The investment is divided into various projects, including £179m to support 41 Doctoral Training Partnerships in physical sciences, maths and engineering. Science education programmes such as Science Learning Partnerships and Stimulating Physics will also receive £8.9m to improve science teaching at GCSE and A level. Furthermore, the first Stephen Hawking Fellows receiving funding to pursue research across physics, maths and computer sciences were announced at the same time.
