Article summary

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) has assented a memorandum of understanding to ensure both UK and Ireland trained architects can register in either countries without undertaking additional specifications. The memorandum takes effect on 1 January 2021 after the end of the Brexit transition period at 11 pm on 31 December 2020. ARB and RIAI collaborated to ‘facilitate the ongoing mutual recognition of architecture qualifications’ and have supplied guidance for architects to understand the impact of the transition and how to safeguard themselves. The memorandum guarantees closer collaboration in the future and ensures adequate routes are provided for qualified professionals across the UK and Ireland.
