The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee has announced that an evidence hearing will take place on 3 July 2023 where it will question the Electoral Commission and election administrators on the introduction of voter ID. The hearing will be centred primarily on the first implementation of voter ID at the local elections held on 4 May 2023, focusing on the Commission’s information campaign and the effectiveness of the implementation of voter ID at polling stations. LUHC has said that the hearing is also likely to explore other areas of the electoral registration inquiry, including automatic or assisted systems of voter registration, annual canvas reforms and barriers to boosting voter registration levels.
