The Courts and Tribunals Judiciary has published a speech given by Lord Burnett at an event for Her Majesty’s Judges held at Mansion House. In the speech, Lord Burnett praised the ability of the courts to innovate and continue to operate, albeit in limited capacity, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, stating ‘over the last four months judges in all jurisdictions, together with all who work in the system, have shown flexibility and creativity to enable justice to continue to be done.’ In addition, he states that ‘technology has enabled much to happen in the past four months which would otherwise have come to a halt’, but urges that in the next legal year, the judiciary must continue to innovate.
