The International Agreements Committee (IAC) has published its sixth report of session 2022–2023 scrutinising the government’s negotiating objectives in relation to the UK-India free trade agreement (FTA). The IAC report has welcomed the negotiations between the parties noting that India’s growing economy and expanding middle class provides significant opportunities for UK businesses and the services sector. However, the IAC has warned that the negotiations pose significant challenges which are not reflected in the government’s negotiation objectives or wider approach.
