The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has published the joint statement from the UK government and European Commission following the 13th meeting of the Specialised Committee on Citizens’ Rights. The meeting was held in London on 4 December 2023 and was co-chaired by officials from the UK government and European Commission. The Committee discussed the implementation and application of the Citizens’ Rights part of the Withdrawal Agreement. In the statement, the UK raised concerns around the treatment and inability of UK nationals to enter several EU Member States to purchase property on an equal basis to EU nationals and UK nationals who are not able to access their rights as they cannot evidence their declaratory right of permanent residence based on the challenge of obtaining the right residency card and family reunification.
