Article summary
The European Commission has launched an anti-subsidy investigation into imports of battery electric vehicles (BEV) from China. The investigation will focus on Chinese BEV value chains and whether these benefit from illegal subsidisation which threatens to cause adverse economic effects on EU BEV producers. Should this prove to be true, the consequences and likely impact will be further examined. Based on the investigation's findings, the Commission will establish whether EU should remedy the effects of the unfair trade practices found by imposing anti-subsidy duties on imports of BEVs from China. The investigation will commence on 4 October 2023 and will be concluded within 13 months of initiation in line with EU and World Trade Organization rules allowing concerned parties to present comments, arguments and evidence.
