The European Commission has adopted a proposal to revise Regulation (EU) 2017/852 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2017 on mercury (the EU Mercury Regulation) which will prohibit the use of dental amalgam and the manufacture and export of certain products containing mercury eg lamps, to protect EU citizens and the environment from toxic mercury. The delegated act would transpose decisions from the fourth Conference of Parties (2022) of the Minamata Convention into EU law, the main international legal framework for protection of human health and the environment from anthropogenic emissions and mercury to air, water and land.
