Planning analysis: The government has confirmed that it has begun the parliamentary process to bring forward the required legislation to remove electricity storage, with the exception of pumped hydro, from the regime for nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs) under the Planning Act 2008 (PA 2008) in England and Wales. This means that in most cases, such projects will be decided at the local level by the local planning authority (LPA). The announcement follows consultation in January 2019 and again in October 2019 on proposals for the treatment of electricity storage within the planning system (the First Consultation and Follow-Up Consultation respectively).
