The Department of Education has announced that councils will be given more flexibility regarding childcare funding during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Indeed, councils will be able to redistribute where it is necessary the funding received for the free entitlements for two, three and four-year-olds. This initiative aims to ensure that ‘sufficient childcare places are available for vulnerable children and those of critical workers’. New guidance will be published to support councils regarding the various options available to them during the coronavirus outbreak.
