The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has issued guidance on how Scotland should proceed with celebrating Christmas this year. The public are advised to celebrate with their own household at home and if possible, to keep minimum exchange with other households. However, Christmas bubbles with a maximum of eight people are allowed to form between 23 December 2020–27 December 2020 in situations where isolation and loneliness may harm people’s welfare over the festive period. Sturgeon states that Christmas bubbles are permitted a maximum of three households, but recommends two households would be safer. The Scottish Government recommends that the duration of any interaction be kept ‘as small as possible’ and travel and overnight stays should be avoided where possible.
