The House of Commons Committee of Privileges has published the Fourth Report of Session 2022-2023 which sets out the next steps in an inquiry into whether Boris Johnson MP misled the House of Commons and, if so, whether he committed a contempt. The Committee has requested documents from Johnson and the government, and has asked 23 witnesses to provide written evidence. The Committee will consider the rules and guidance relating to coronavirus (COVID-19) that were in force at the relevant time, Johnson’s knowledge of the rules and guidance in force, and Johnson’s attendance at gatherings that were not socially distanced and those for which fixed penalty notices were issued. The Committee has written to Johnson to confirm a date on which he will give oral evidence, and to offer him the chance to submit a written statement in response.
