MLex: In a sharp escalation of trade tensions, China has retaliated against US President Donald Trump’s latest tariff hike by imposing an additional 50% tariff of its own, bringing the total new tariffs on all US goods exported to China to 84%, effective 10 April 2025. This increase is part of a new wave of countermeasures launched by Beijing on 9 April 2025 in response to the White House's decision to raise overall tariffs on Chinese goods to a minimum of 104%.
