Article summary

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has announced that the government will be implementing new arrangements for British Nationals (Overseas) (BN(O)s) in Hong Kong following the Chinese Government’s imposition of a national security law on the country in breach of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. The extended residence rights permit BN(O)s to come to the UK without the current six-month limit, allowing them five years limited leave to remain, live and work in the UK. Following the five years, they will be permitted to apply for settled status, then apply for citizenship after a further 12 months.
