As UK and EU negotiations began to falter over an alleged lack of ambition on each side, the UK has affirmed a 'mutually high ambition for services, investment and digital trade', following the first round of talks on the UK-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In this exploratory round, which was held on 5-15 May 2020, UK and US objectives were discussed and a roadmap was laid. A mutual commitment to pursue a standalone chapter for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and to continue UK-US SME dialogue was also set out. The second virtual round of talks is scheduled for the weeks commencing 15 June and 22 June 2020.
