The Department for Food, Environment & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission have launched the ‘Plant the future’ campaign to promote the various grants available to farmers and landowners who wish to create new woodlands or manage existing ones. In particular, Defra and the Forestry Commission point to the England Woodland Creation Offer in which grants of up to £10,000 per hectare are available and which supports the establishment of woodlands of a range of types and sizes. The campaign also highlights the benefits of woodland creation, such as generating extra income, increasing farm productivity, boosting biodiversity, providing access to nature, reducing soil erosion, absorbing carbon and protecting communities from flood risk.
