Ofgem launches consultation on energy code manager selection process
Ofgem has launched a consultation on its proposed approach to selecting code managers under the new energy code governance framework established by the Energy Act 2023. The consultation seeks views on a three-stage selection process, including an eligibility assessment, licensing assessment, and implementation and assurance system, as outlined in the Code Manager Selection Regulations 2024, SI 2024/1081. Ofgem is also consulting on whether code managers should be selected on a competitive or non-competitive basis. Ofgem further notes that the selection processes for the first two code managers have already commenced, with Elexon and the Retail Energy Code Company invited to express interest in becoming candidates for the Balancing and Settlement Code and Retail Energy Code. The consultation closes on 30 January 2025.
