Commission launches call for evidence on environmental simplification omnibus
The European Commission has initiated a call for evidence seeking input on a future omnibus package to simplify environmental legislation, with the aim of streamlining administrative requirements while maintaining environmental protection standards. The scope of the initiative is not yet fixed, but is likely to target reporting and administrative requirements contained in circular economy, waste management, and industrial emissions legislation (likely to include the Waste Framework Directive and Industrial Emissions Directive) and environmental assessment requirements, with a view to simplifying permitting processes for decarbonisation projects. The call for evidence also indicates that administrative and reporting requirements linked to extended producer responsibility measures may be targeted and the Substances of Concern in Products (SCIP) Database, established pursuant to the Waste Framework Directive, may be scrapped .
