DESNZ publishes terms of reference for the North Sea Future Board

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has published the terms of reference and membership for the North Sea Future Board (NSF Board), a new Ministerial-chaired advisory body established under the government’s North Sea Future Plan. The NSF Board is intended to act as the central forum for collaboration between government, industry, regional organisations and trade unions to support delivery of the UK’s energy transition in the North Sea, including clean energy deployment, workforce transition and supply chain development. The Board will provide external expertise and may inform related government policy, although DESNZ will retain responsibility for all policy and spending decisions.

DESNZ launches consultation on OESEA5 scoping for future offshore energy leasing

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a consultation on the UK Offshore Energy Strategic Environmental Assessment (OESEA5) Scoping Document, which sets out the proposed scope and level of detail for the forthcoming Environmental Report. The report will cover future leasing and licensing for offshore renewable energy, offshore gas, carbon dioxide and hydrogen storage, and the granting of Transitional Energy Certificates for oil and gas. The scoping process aims to identify environmental issues of concern at an early stage, inform the assessment approach, and ensure environmental implications of the draft plan or programme are considered prior to adoption. The consultation closes on 6 March 2026.
