The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has shared the estimates of construction output produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), revealing a 0.4% decrease in volume for October 2024. This decline is attributed to a 1.3% fall in repair and maintenance activities, whilst new work saw a modest growth of 0.2%. The private housing repair and maintenance sector experienced the most significant downturn, with a 3.8% decrease. Despite the monthly decline, the CLC noted that construction output is estimated to have increased by 0.4% in the three months leading up to October 2024, driven by a 1.7% rise in new work, offsetting a 1.2% decrease in repair and maintenance over the same period.

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has announced that nine ‘household names’ have signed up to the C02nstruct Zero campaign. The C02nstruct Zero campaign aims to bring businesses across the construction industry together, providing a roadmap for change and clear progress measures, in order to reduce the use of carbon in construction. The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has announced that the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) has published its latest statistics on building control approval applications for higher-risk buildings, covering the period from December 2025 to February 2026. The dataset provides insight into the volume and status of applications received by the BSR in its role as the building control authority for higher-risk buildings in England. Under the current framework, developers must obtain building control approval before commencing construction of a new higher-risk building, which is broadly defined as a residential building at least 18 metres in height or seven storeys with two or more residential units, as well as certain care homes and hospitals.

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has announced its endorsement of the Conflict Avoidance Coalition (CAC) and is calling for industry-wide adoption of the CAC's Conflict Avoidance Pledge. The Pledge, signed by 600 businesses and organisations and endorsed by the UK government and Cabinet Office, commits signatories to proactively avoid contractual disputes and implement early intervention measures. The CAC comprises institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, among others. The CAC has also developed a Conflict Avoidance Toolkit, providing practical guidance and techniques for preventing disputes and resolving issues early and cost effectively.

The Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Green Construction Board has launched a biodiversity roadmap for the construction sector. The roadmap details how the industry can address the biodiversity crisis and reduce harm to the natural environment. The information contained in this roadmap can be applied to the industry as a whole or to an individual organisation and is intended to be used as a tool to increase knowledge and understanding in the sector while providing medium and long term goals.

The Construction Leadership Council's (CLC) Material Supply Chain Group has published a statement noting that the government implemented new steel tariffs on 1 July 2026, halving tariff-free quotas and raising duties on UK steel imports to 50%. The group cautioned that UK access to certain steel products could be reduced and said industry bodies are seeking a review process to address emerging issues. The statement also noted that construction output grew 1.6% in the three months to April 2026, but industry forecasts suggest a 2–2.5% sector decline for 2026, with housing demand weakening as mortgage approvals fall on both a year-on-year and month-on-month basis.
