The Construction Leadership Council has published new guidance on staged applications and the key steps between Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 for building control approval for new higher-risk buildings in the UK on 18 December 2025. The guidance applies to dutyholders, applicants and regulators involved in submitting and assessing Gateway 2 applications and builds on the CLC’s initial suite of Gateway 2 guidance issued in July 2025. The letter outlines three primary objectives for Skills England: firstly, to facilitate an employer-demand driven skills system across government; secondly, to foster a more collaborative approach to evidence gathering, sharing, and analysis; and thirdly, to ensure that the growth and skills levy effectively supports and incentivises employers to meet the industry's strategic skills requirements.

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has published its monthly construction update, with monthly output estimated to have decreased by 0.4% in volume in March 2024. This decrease comprised of decreases in new work as well as repair and maintenance. Quarterly construction output also decreased by 0.9% in quarter 1 of 2024 compared with quarter 4 of 2023. The annual rate of construction output price growth rose by 1.5% in the 12 months to March 2024, slowing from record annual price growth seen in May 2022 and June 2022 of 10.7%.

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has published monthly results for December 2023. The monthly construction output is estimated to have decreased by 0.5% in volume in December 2023. Between October to December 2023, construction output saw a decrease of 1.3% compared to July to September 2023 which saw a 5.0% decrease. Despite this, annual construction output increased by 2.0% in 2023 compared with 2022, this is the third consecutive year of annual growth.

The monthly construction output is estimated to have increased by 1.1% in volume terms in January 2024, with new work increasing by 1.1% and repair and maintenance by 1.2%. Additionally, six out of the nine sectors saw a rise in January 2024, with the main contributors being private new housing, and non-housing repair and maintenance, which increased by 2.6% and 1.9% respectively.

This decline was attributed to decreases in repair and maintenance (0.8% decrease), and new work (1.9% decrease). At the sectoral level, seven out of the nine sectors experienced a decline in April 2024. The main contributors to this decrease were private housing repair and maintenance (2.5% decrease), and private housing new work (4.4% decrease). In the three months leading up to April 2024, construction output is estimated to have decreased by 2.2%, resulting from decreases in repair and maintenance (1.4% decrease), and new work (2.8% decrease).
