The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has published a letter from its chair, Klaas Knot, to G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors ahead of the meeting on 23–24 April 2025. The FSB urges authorities to assess which banks fall into this category and ensure they are prepared for resolution.

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has launched a thematic peer review on the implementation of its global regulatory framework for cryptoasset activities. The review seeks stakeholder feedback on the impact of jurisdictional regulatory frameworks on cryptoasset issuers and service providers, the challenges faced by market participants, and financial stability vulnerabilities across jurisdictions. The framework consists of high-level recommendations for the regulation, supervision, and oversight of cryptoasset activities, and markets, as well as ‘global stablecoin’ arrangements. The review aims to evaluate the progress made by FSB member and select non-member jurisdictions, including any lessons learned. Responses are sought by 28 March 2025, with the final report scheduled for publication in October 2025.

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has published an updated list of insurers subject to recovery and resolution planning (RRP) requirements with seventeen insurers named, up from thirteen in 2024. The FSB has also launched a consultation on draft guidance to help authorities determine whether an insurer should be subject to RRP.  Finally, the FSB confirmed it will continue to rely on the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Holistic Framework to assess systemic risk in the insurance sector, rather than reinstating the annual identification of global systemically important insurers (G-SIIs). Responses are sought to the consultation by 6 February 2026.

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has announced the nomination of the governor of the Bank of England (BoE), Andrew Bailey, to serve as the next chair of the FSB for a three-year term starting on 1 July 2025. The nomination was unanimously agreed upon by the Nomination Committee and will be formalised by the FSB Plenary on 1 June 2025. Bailey, who has held various significant roles in financial regulation and supervision throughout his career, is currently the chair of the FSB’s Standing Committee on Supervisory and Regulatory Cooperation (SRC).

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has published a consultation report with interim findings of its evaluation of the effects of the G20 financial regulatory reforms on securitisation. The evaluation focuses on the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) minimum retention recommendations and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) revisions to prudential requirements for banks’ securitisation-related exposures, both of which aimed to address the vulnerabilities in the securitisation market that contributed to the amplification of losses during the 2008 global financial crisis. Responses are sought by 2 September 2024.
