The European Commission has launched a call for evidence on the proposed EU Digital Networks Act, which seeks to enhance access to secure, high-speed, and reliable connectivity to support the EU’s transition to cloud infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence. The initiative aims to stimulate investment in digital infrastructure by fostering the deployment of secure fixed and wireless broadband networks. It builds upon the Commission’s White Paper, 'How to master Europe’s digital infrastructure needs', adopted on 21 February 2024. Feedback from stakeholders will inform the impact assessment and further development of the proposal for a regulation. The consultation closes on 11 July 2025.

The European Commission is seeking views on a draft Delegated Regulation revising the network code on requirements for grid connection of generators. The proposed revision aims to update and future-proof the network code to further support the EU power grid by accommodating developments such as the increased deployment of renewable energy, e-mobility and battery storage, while continuing to ensure the safety of system operation and the efficiency of the EU power grid. Feedback is open until 25 August 2026 with Commission adoption is planned for Q4 2026.

The European Commission has opened a consultation on two draft delegated regulations proposing changes to the classification of certain waste under Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 on shipments of waste, with the aim of facilitating shipments for recovery between Member States. The proposals would allow additional non-hazardous waste streams to be shipped under the general information requirements without prior written notification and consent. These include certain treated electrical and electronic waste (e-waste), textile mixtures, fibre-reinforced polymer composites, metal waste from construction and demolition activities, mattresses, permanent magnets and metal waste from end-of-life vehicles. Untreated non-hazardous e-waste would remain subject to prior written notification and consent.

The European Commission is seeking feedback on possible revisions to the criteria of the EU taxonomy, the classification system for sustainable economic activities. The goal of the revision is to make the framework simpler and easier to use. Responses are sought by 14 April 2026. Input received will shape the forthcoming revision of the criteria by the Commission, planned for adoption by summer 2026.

The European Commission has selected 85 innovative net-zero projects across 18 countries to receive €4.8bn in grants from the Innovation Fund, marking the largest funding round since the Fund's inception in 2020. These projects, spanning sectors such as renewable energy, industrial carbon management, and net-zero mobility, aim to reduce emissions by 476 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over their first decade of operation. The successful applicants are due to sign their grant agreements with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency in the first quarter of 2025. The next call for proposals set for December 2024.

The European Commission has announced on 27 March 2025 the selection of 47 Strategic Projects across 13 EU Member States under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, 2024 (EU CRMA). The projects, requiring €22.5bn in capital investment, aim to meet EU targets for domestic raw materials capacity by 2030. Selected projects will benefit from streamlined permitting processes—27 months for extraction and 15 months for other projects—and coordinated support from EU institutions. The projects cover 14 of 17 strategic materials identified in the EU CRMA, which entered into force on 23 May 2024.

The European Commission has adopted the first list of 13 Strategic Projects located in third countries to support the EU’s access to critical raw materials and promote local value creation abroad. These projects complement the 47 Strategic Projects previously adopted within the EU and are part of the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the EU’s industrial competitiveness and economic security in sectors such as electromobility, renewable energy, aerospace, and defence.

The European Commission has sent TikTok preliminary findings indicating that minors' accounts on the platform do not meet the safety standards required under the EU Digital Services Act (EU DSA). The Commission preliminarily considers that TikTok's account settings expose minors' accounts and content too widely, creating risks including unwanted contact, cyberbullying and predatory behaviour. It also considers that, while older minors (aged 16–17) may choose to share content with a broader audience on TikTok, that content should not be accessible to a global audience outside the platform or recommended to other users through the For You Feed.

The European Commission has issued letters of formal notice to multiple EU Member States for failing to transpose five directives into national law. The directives cover electricity market design (26 Member States), building energy performance (9 Member States), digital operational resilience (13 Member States), road transport social legislation (16 Member States), and food extraction solvents (5 Member States). The Member States have two months to respond and complete transposition of the directives, which had deadlines between January and February 2025. Only Denmark has fully transposed the electricity market directive by the required deadline.

The European Commission has sent a request for information to Shein under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), following preliminary indications that illegal goods, including child-like sex dolls and weapons, are being offered on its marketplace. Following the recent sales of illegal products in France and public reports, the Commission suspects that Shein's systems may present a systemic risk to consumers across the EU. The Commission is seeking detailed information and internal documentation on the measures Shein deploys to ensure minors are not exposed to age-inappropriate content, particularly through age assurance measures, and on the controls in place to prevent illegal products circulating on its platform. It is also requesting evidence of the effectiveness of these mitigation measures. Under the DSA, very large online platforms such as Shein are required to assess and mitigate systemic risks, including risks to minors and the spread of illegal content. This is the third information request the Commission has issued to Shein.

The European Commission, through the adoption of Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/1185 (Delegated Regulation in line with the EU’s Industrial Carbon Management Strategy and Clean Industrial Deal), has established the identification and calculation rules for European oil and gas producers to deliver new CO₂ storage solutions by 2030. Based on this Regulation, the Commission has also issued a Decision that specifies the individual shares of 44 listed oil and gas companies in achieving the collective objective of 50 million tonnes of annual CO₂ injection capacity into geological storage sites by 2030, as set out in the EU Net-Zero Industry Act. The Companies are required to contribute to this target in proportion to their share of EU oil and gas production in the 2020 to 2023 reference period and must provide operational CO₂ injection capacity by 31 December 2030 in sites approved under the Carbon Capture and Storage Directive (2009/31/EC).

The European Commission has announced that the Entry/Exit System (EES) will launch on 12 October 2025, with implementation occurring progressively over six months. The system, part of the EU's Smart Borders package, will digitally record entries and exits of non-EU nationals travelling to 29 European countries, replacing manual passport stamping with biometric data collection. The European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems (eu-LISA) will work with Member States to implement the system. The EES operates alongside the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) and expanded Automated Border Control systems. Implementation includes planned information campaigns at border crossing points, with full deployment expected across all border points by April 2026.
