The Welsh Government has published the integrated and economic impact assessments for the Building Safety Bill (the Bill) with regards to Wales. Central to the Bill is improving fire safety in light of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety commissioned in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire, which identified several critical issues with the construction industry. With regards to the economic assessment, the Welsh Government estimates the average annual extra cost of the Bill to the construction industry in Wales to be between £1.1m and £2m. The integrated review notes that the Bill will stimulate innovation in the industry, as well as increase exports owing to increased safety standards.
