The Welsh Government has published new guidance with a framework to help support highway authorities on decisions on local speed limits. The Welsh Government has noted that, from September 2024, highway authorities will be able to apply the new framework to assess speed limits on roads where they think a change may be appropriate. The new framework allows for prioritisation of a 20mph limit on roads where pedestrians and cyclists mix with vehicles frequently. The Welsh Government has also said that local authorities will be able to apply for funding to make the speed limit changes, with an additional £5m in funding for this financial year.
