The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Michelle Donelan, has launched plans at the Global Investment Summit on 27 November 2023 to support innovation in clean aviation, drones and autonomous marine tech. Three sandboxes and testbeds allying innovators and regulators will aim to help UK firms and researchers develop hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel for aviation, explore the use of drones in passenger transport and deliveries, and put self-piloting marine technology to work. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is also naming 29 new partners to the Investor Partnerships programme. Previous investor partnership programmes unlocked more than £370m in private partner backing. DSIT, through Innovate UK, is investing over £110m together with private investors to drive cash into scaling-up UK businesses that are using technologies to tackle pressing challenges, from climate change to healthcare.
