The Scottish Government has announced a £36m expansion of the Reaching 100% (R100) contracts to allow rural homes and businesses access to faster broadband. The extensions aim to see another 2,637 rural properties gain access to gigabit-capable connections as a result of the R100. The Scottish Government states that this will provide broadband speed more than 30 times faster than its original commitment. The UK government’s Project Gigabit will fund £16m of the additional investment, which will be split between the R100 north and south contracts.
