The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published its provisional statistics estimating the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions for 1990–2019. The estimates are based on provisional inland energy consumption statistics and report that the total UK greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 were provisionally 45.2% lower than in 1990. Additionally, 2019 net emissions of carbon dioxide were provisionally estimated to be 3.9% lower than in 2018. BEIS confirms that the provisional emissions estimates are subject to revision when the final estimates are published.
