MLex has reported that the local government of Policoro, southern Italy, has been fined €26,000 by the Italian Data Protection Authority for processing personal data via video surveillance, in violation of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (EU GDPR). Among other things, Policoro's surveillance system had retained data on combating illegal waste disposal for longer than necessary, and its informative signs lacked all the required information, the regulator said.
