The Chief Executive and Registrar for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Andrea Sutcliffe CBE, has announced nurses, midwives and nursing associates who have recently left the permanent register and wish to return to work, can join the coronavirus (COVID-19) temporary emergency register. The coronavirus vaccines are now being rolled out across four nations to reduce the spread and impact of coronavirus. Joining the temporary register will allow these professionals to contribute to important and urgent work, but they must have up-to-date skills and knowledge and must have only recently left the permanent register. The NMC wants to ensure ‘nursing and midwifery professionals are properly supported and public safety is protected.’
